How Modis switched learning platforms and cut onboarding time in half
A good onboarding plan and learning content can run up against the technical limits of an LMS. If a platform has few capabilities and is inconvenient for everyone involved, effective training is out of the question. Clothing retailer Modis turned to Talent Rocks for a new mobile learning platform and got a tool that improves its onboarding processes.
Client
Modis, a Russian retailer and manufacturer of clothing for the whole family, was founded in 2006. Over 19 years, the company has opened more than 100 stores across the country. Today it offers clothing for men, women and children, as well as accessories, hats, home goods and personal care products.
Modis has more than 1,000 employees working at its head office and in its retail network.
Challenge
The company already had a staff training solution, but it had drawbacks:
- No app — only a web version of the LMS with an inconvenient interface and limited functionality
- Many necessary features were missing from the platform. For example, some media materials couldn’t be uploaded, and surveys couldn’t be run
- Administration and adding new content were complicated
As a result, the Modis Training Center couldn’t fully deliver its onboarding and training programs, and new employees were given an inconvenient tool that was difficult and ineffective to use.
In our industry, employees need to be onboarded and trained quickly to keep them with the company. The platform where this happens plays a big role. That’s why we turned to Talent Rocks for a functional app with interactive features.
Solution
Personalized onboarding tracks play a major role in the Modis Academy app. They are assigned automatically when an employee is added to a specific group, such as “Sales Associates/Cashiers.” Learning materials unlock once a day so that a new hire can work through them calmly at their own pace.
There are also “Golden Reserve” paths for employees seeking career growth. They can take part in the “Golden Reserve” development programs, designed to prepare them for more senior positions.
Selection for this program is made on an individual basis. These tracks are assigned manually to selected employees.
Another important feature is the ability to retake a course to refresh knowledge or get help on the job.
The platform also has a news feed and chats for participants. More than 1,000 Modis employees use the app.
Summary
Thanks to the new platform and its capabilities, the Training Center was able to “relaunch” employee training. As a result, onboarding time dropped from 2 months to 1 month, and satisfaction with training increased.
In addition, the completion rate is 75–100% in the “Golden Reserve” training and 70–84% in programs for new employees.
